Tools of the Trade

You can make big changes to your small bathroom with a little splash of paint and some flea-market flair. A trip to your local hobby and craft store can also be a great place to find many masculine accents, as well.

Warm Up the Walls

We used a chocolate brown paint to really warm and cozy up the bathroom. This paint color, in combination with a few cigar boxes used for storage, brings to mind the feeling of being in a cigar room full of comfortable brown leather tufted chairs.

Choose Decor to Reflect Your Style and Passions

Metal signs picturing some of my hobbies and interests cover and line the walls of the bathroom. We also added some retro accents like the Avon bottle gas pump, plaid thermos and money roll, as well as using two Best Western ash trays to hold a nail brush and hand soap. An over-sized Texaco coffee mug is used to gather a group of random antique screw drivers, while a couple of empty Captain Morgan bottles complete the look on the window sill.

The walls are covered with tin signs that reflect some of my favorite things.

Masculinize Your Medicine Cabinet

Opening the mirrored medicine cabinet reveals even more masculine accents. A pair of old school barber shop Barbicide glasses are used to corral a few combs, tweezers, small scissors, cuticle cutter, and shaving brush. I used a Jack Daniel’s glass to hold my razor and a John Deere mug to dress up a bottle of nasal spray. I cut to fit an old piece of fence wood to make a rustic shelf for the container that houses my toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss.

Not Just Stogie Storage

On the counter around the sink, I have a container for Q-tips, a brown cigar box holding my extra razors, and a red cigar box used as a great platform for my clock/weather station.

Focus on the Details

We found a retro metal hand towel holder and spray-painted it gold, which gives it a hammered look, as well. I normally use the deep red hand towels that match the bath towels, but as you can see from some of the photos, I’m using a red and green plaid hand towel, since it is Christmastime.

Organization Solutions

Inside the cabinet over the toilet, you will find the usual suspects of masculine personal care products from shaving gel to antiperspirant/deodorant and everything in between. The cabinet is also used to store extra bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, and soap.

Themed Magnets

On the side of the cabinet, we hung an “oil drip pan” (baking tray) using 3M Velcro strips and stuck different automotive- and superhero-themed magnets to it.

Pay Attention to Textures

The cream colored waffle weave shower curtain adds a nice textured cozy feel to the bathroom. If you look close, you can see that the waffle weave shower curtain very closely matches the waffle weave pattern on Elvis’ tie on the tin sign picture of him that lives on the wall over the toilet. I truly didn’t do that on purpose—it just turned out to be a happy coincidence.

Air It Out!

Even though your bathroom may be on the small side, you can always use a standard box fan to help cool it off, air it out, or let out some steam.

Job Well Done!

As you can see, a little color and imagination can go a long way in turning your plain old everyday bathroom into your very own “Men’s Room."
